A Walk in the Forest: The Day Toffa "Got Lost"

Yesterday we decided to go for a walk in the forest. It was one of those calm, bright mornings — the kind that makes you want to breathe deeply and feel grateful for the world. I packed some water, treats for the dogs, and my old blue backpack. Uмka and Chuchundra were spinning in circles with excitement. Toffa, as usual, calmly waited by the door, his tail wagging slowly, dignified.

The forest met us with birdsong, soft moss underfoot, and the sun weaving gold through the leaves. Uмka darted ahead, ears flying, while Chuchundra zigzagged between trees like a little rocket. Toffa walked next to me like a wise companion, occasionally sniffing the air or inspecting a tree stump.

We took the familiar trail at first, then veered onto a quieter path. I love those forgotten forest roads, where you feel completely alone with nature. I chatted with the dogs, laughed at their games, took a few pictures. We walked deeper and deeper into the woods.

At some point, I noticed that Toffa wasn’t with us. I turned around. No Toffa. Called out — nothing. The girls sensed the tension and froze. Uмka ran back the way we came, nose to the ground. Chuchundra stood close, her eyes wide. My heart began to pound.

We searched in all directions, called his name, whistled, rustled the treat bag. Nothing. I started to panic. He’s older now. What if he got confused? Or chased something? Or — no, no dark thoughts.

We wandered for what felt like hours. At some point I realized we were near the parking area. Tired, upset, and dusty, we stepped out of the trees…

And there he was.

Toffa was sitting quietly by the car, looking at us with his usual wise, calm expression. His tail gave one happy wag. As if to say, “What took you so long?”

I laughed through tears. The girls ran to him, jumping and sniffing, and he tolerated the chaos like a king returning from exile.

Apparently, while we were lost in panic, Toffa made the sensible decision to return to the car. Unlike his humans, he clearly knew where he was and what to do.

It was a reminder that sometimes, the one you’re looking for isn’t lost at all. Sometimes, he’s just waiting for you to come back to your senses.

On the drive home, he sat like a little emperor in the back seat, eyes half-closed, entirely satisfied with himself.

Oh, Toffa.
