Blog Title: Day 2: Things You Learned in School That Are Actually Wrong

We all spent years with textbooks and exams. But some of what we learned wasn't quite right. Not lies, exactly, but oversimplified or outdated information that stuck with us.

Let's start with a common phrase: "We only use 10% of our brain." This is completely wrong. Brain scans show activity across almost the entire brain, even during sleep. This myth likely originated from misquoted psychology research decades ago, but it spread everywhere.

Another example is that Columbus discovered America. He didn't. Indigenous people had lived there for thousands of years. Also, Leif Erikson reached North America about 500 years before Columbus did.

Then there’s the classic myth that swallowed gum stays in your stomach for 7 years. While your body can't digest gum base, it still passes through your system normally. It doesn't sit there for years.

Why does this matter? Because education shapes our thinking. When we cling to incorrect information, it affects our judgments in ways we might not notice.

The aim of this series isn’t just to share facts. It’s to help you become a sharper, more curious thinker. Question everything, even ideas that seem completely settled.

As we continue with this series, we'll uncover more gaps in what most of us learned.
