Ecology: Conservation Biology and the (Current) 6th Mass Extinction
<center <a href=' src=' </a </center <hr
In this video, I go over conservation biology, which is the study of conserving Earth's biodiversity by protecting species from excessive rates of extinction and restoring damaged habitats. We are currently in the sixth mass extinction, or the Holocene extinction period, which has extinction rates 100+ times higher than the background extinction rate. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature IUCN , around 50% of all species will be extinct within 50 years, and mainly due to increased human activity and global population.
